Dušan Brankov, tambura maker, builds all of his instruments in accordance with the laws of accoustics,
which are the basis for his blueprints. According to the principles of accoustics, the reciprocal dimensions of
every Brankov instrument are always musical intervals. In his designs, there are 17 reciprocal dimensions
which are musical intervals. For example the relationship of the lengh of the body of the Brac "A" (Bas prim"A")
and the lengh of its strings is 3/4, which is a relationship of a fourth. This means that, in the case of the Brac"A",
the lengh of the body is 403.628 mm and the lengh of its strings is 538.170 mm, therefore making of following
equation: 403.628/538.170=3/4 - the ratio of a fourth. < /FONT>
ADVANTAGES
MATERIALS
All of the instruments are made of the wood which has been seasoned for at least 10 years. The body and neck
are most often made from Bosnian maple, cherry, walnut, pear or plum wood. The fingerboard is made from
Brazilian rosewood and some frets are marked with decorative pieces of mother-of-pearl. The soundboard is made
from first grade Bosnian spruce and is protected from scratches by the decorative inlay in the shape of a tulip,
which is also the Brankov trademark.
DETAILS OF PRODUCTION
The neck of all the instruments is always made from a single piece of wood. The bisernica (prim) is made from
one piece of wood, preventing any separation of neck and body which can happen when these parts are glued together.
The tuning mechanisms are specially made in Germany in a shop which has a long-standing excellence in this field.
These mechanisms are carefully made for these instruments and fit perfectly.
INSTRUMENT CASES
Cases for these instruments are custom made and tailored so that the instruments fit perfectly in them.
They are made of sturdy insulating material. The styrofoam walls of these cases protect the instruments
from demage due to rapid temperature changes. This is an important feature particularly in winter and
summer months when there are great changes in temperatures.
